JŪRATĖ JUREVIČIENĖ, INGA GENYTĖ, MARIJA DRĖMAITĖ, RIČARDAS ŽIČKUS, ROLANDAS PALEKAS - EXCURSION “ANTAKALNIS AND ŽIRMŪNAI: HOW DO THEY LIVE HERE?”
Architecture [excursion] fund invites to the last excursion on this season visiting the districts of Antakalnis
and Žirmūnai on 10th December .
Located on the both sides of the river Neris two districts emerged at a similar time – thought today both look differently. Antakalnis is famous for its wide spectrum of architecturalstyles and rich history, while Žirmūnai is known as the USSR national award winning district. This diversity will be united by the topic of housing and the question “Antakalnis and Žirmūnai: how do they live here?“. Starting with the baroque palaces, czarist villas, interwar co-op cottages, first soviet-time prefab concrete homes, experimental housing, barracks and youth hostels and ending with examples of new architecture – all this is included into 4 hours excursion on foot and rented trolleybus.
