FUTURE ARCHITECTURE PLATFORM - Successful Creative Exchange 2020
The 2020 Creative Exchange – the largest Future Architecture Platform gathering of the year – took place from 12-13 February 2020 at MAO Ljubljana, Slovenia. Attended by over 100 international creative professionals, the inspiring event brought together the freshly selected Future Architecture Fellows, the platform members, prominent thinkers and Future Architecture enthusiasts to discuss the future of architecture. This marked the start of the 2020 European Architecture Program — a series of exhibitions, conferences, talks, workshops, summer schools, and Archifutures publications throughout 12 European cities.

Matchmaking Conference
The first day of the Matchmaking Conference featured 25 submitted ideas that were selected by curators and artistic directors of 26 platform members, Future Architecture alumni and the public through online voting: Critical Practice (United Kingdom), Unfolding Pavilion (Italy), Agustin Schang (USA), Institute for Linear Research (Liechtenstein), Diego Sologuren, Brad Downey (Switzerland), TEN Studio & Alexis Kalagas (Australia), Jason Rhys Parry (USA), CIVIS (USA), Amigdala (Italy), Mies. TV (Austria), Goda Verikaite (Netherlands), Architects Climate Action Network (United Kingdom), Sonja Lakić (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Architecture of Shame (Italy), Proyecto Colectivo (USA), Grégoire Deberdt (France), Un-war Space Lab (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Will Jennings (United Kingdom), Renzo Sgolacchia (Netherlands), Constantinos Marcou (Cyprus), Forty-Five Degrees (Germany), Office of Human Resources (USA), Itinerant Office (Spain), TiriLab (Greece) and pais(vi)agem (Spain). Most of the applicants address social and environmental issues in architecture, while other deal with challenges related to technology, planning and heritage. Also featured was Monique Besten (Netherlands), who is the recipient of this year's Writers Grant awarded by dpr-barcelona. Besides this, Marina Otero Verzier, architect and director of research at Het Nieuwe Instituut, rounded up the first day with her annual reflections summary. We also had the pleasure of meeting our new members: Theatrum Mundi (Paris and London) and BETA, Timișoara Architecture Biennial (Timișoara).

Focus Talks
This year’s speakers at the inspiring Focus Talks event were James Taylor-Foster, writer, editor and curator of contemporary architecture and design at ArkDes in Stockholm, Mariana Pestana, architect and curator of the Istanbul Design Biennial, Marina Otero Verzier, architect and director of research at Het Nieuwe Instituut, Léa-Catherine Szacka, architect, historian and critic, and the author of Biennials/Triennials: Conversations on the Geography of Itinerant Display, and Thomas Geisler, design curator and cultural producer, and curator of the BIO 26, Common Knowledge. A highly animated discussion with all speakers followed their interesting talks. The full video lectures of this talks will be available soon.
Future Architecture Fair
During the Creative Exchange, the Future Architecture Fair provided a forum for architects and architecture offices, institutions, producers, curators and other professionals to present their projects, connect and collaborate, and stay up to date on the latest developments in architecture. The highlight of the fair were the Pitch Cocktails, an evening event that is part of the official program, where all the fair participants introduced themselves and their work in short five-minute public presentations. This year, we welcomed School of Waters - Mediterranea 19, Creative Food Cycles, Distributed Design Market Platform, Architectural Thinking School for Children, DesignWanted, Tbilisi Architecture Biennial, off_gallery graz, Lemonot UK, Dragana Ćirić, BETA CITY, Sadia Mounata, Ana Antunes Perdigão, MELEEM Skopje, Monique Besten and City Triennial Gothenburg.
