Maarten Van Den Driessche - RECENT SCHOOL ARCHITECTURE IN BELGIUM: A TOPOLOGY OF ELEMENTS
ARCHITECTURE OF EDUCATION
Schools are important public buildings. In Belgium a significant school building operation is taking place. Different new interesting school buildings are realized in a 5 year period. In this lecture the speaker will use 10 elements of a school building - entrance gate, the fence, the staircase, the corridor, the window, the classroom, the dining room, the cloak room, the school hall and playground - to discuss 10 recently realized architectural projects.
The conversation is arranged in collaboration with VGTU Faculty of Architecture.
The talk is held on MONDAY, 8.00 p.m. at the National Art Gallery (NDG), Konstitucijos av. 22, Vilnius.

Maarten Van Den Driessche is dr. engineer architect. Currently he works as a postdoctoral research assistant and as a lecturer at the Department of Architecture & Urban Planning of the University of Ghent and as a lecturer in architectural theory at The University College for Sciences and Arts KUleuven Ghent and Brussels. In 2009 he submitted his PhD on the ‘Architecture of the Educational Complex in the Belgian Context (1842–1972). His scientific research is situated in the field of Architectural Theory, Criticism and Design Methodology, with a spe-cial interest in the typology of semi-public buildings and design practice. He was editor of sev-eral books and journals. He published articles on architectural design and related issues in A+, Archis, OASE, Werk, Bauen + Wohnen, DWR, Paedagogica Historiae, etc.
OASE is an independent journal on Architectural Theory. This Theme Issue was devoted to educational architecture in Flanders and the Netherlands. It presents several essays on the topic and a selection of a-typical projects.
