Pekka Korvenmaa - Influence flow in the periphery. Finnish architecture and the Baltic sphere
HOW DID I GET HERE?* NATIONAL IDENTITY IN ARCHITECTURE
It highlights the influence Finnish architecture had in the Baltic sphere, including Lithuania, from 1900 to 1960s. It demonstrates how "peripheries" can communicate without always being subordinated to big centers like Vienna or Berlin.
The conversation is arranged in collaboration with VGTU Faculty of Architecture.
The talk is held on Thursday, 8.00 p.m. at the National Art Gallery (NDG), Konstitucijos av. 22, Vilnius.

Pekka Korvenmaa (b.1954) is Vice Dean at the Aalto University School of Art and Design and professor of Design and Culture, Department of Design at the same university. He has published on Finnish architectural and design history both in Finland and internationally since 1981. He has published several books and articles on the history of Finnish architecture and design.
The book demonstrates how a peripheral region, then country, was able to create a successful design culture in interaction with the international scene but not copying from there.
