Why the talk is inspiring?

The work of Fine Young Urbanists is an ongoing exploration of communication to the public through hands–on urban design and collaborative Placemaking. I will present several small scale interventions in public spaces that have informed larger urban design or educational processes.

The talk is held on October 20th, Thursday, 7.00 p.m. at the Vytautas Magnus university (VMU), science and study center at Putvinskio str., 23, Kaunas.

Entrance is free of charge.

How the speaker is exceptional?

Evelina has completed architecture studies in Riga and holds a masters degree in Urbanism from TU Delft in the Netherlands. She has worked as an architect and urban designer at MADE arhitekti in Riga and SVESMI in Rotterdam. Next to design work, for the last 10 years Evelina has been writing for online and printed publications, and is currently responsible for the Latvian creative industry website FOLD. Evelina is Program Director at Riga Technical University International Summer School, where she guides students pursuing careers in architecture, Urbanism, and design. Together with Toms Kokins, she runs a design studio Fine Young Urbanists.

Why the book is worth reading?

It describes the basic principles of how public spaces function and why they matter in a simple and attractive way. The book is easy to read, funny, and hasn't aged at all (despite being written in the 1980s).
