TOMAS GRUNSKIS - ARCHACTIVISM. VECTORS OF THE SOCIAL IN ARCHITECTURE

ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICE IN EXPANDED FIELD

09
JUN 2016
Why the talk is inspiring?

In the 21st century the underlying properties and qualities of the developmental vectors of architecture have changed in essence. We no longer can consider and create contemporary architecture by projecting meanings and applying methods that were developed over the 20th or even 19th centuries. If it is still the great art, then like the contemporary arts, the new architecture acquires more interdisciplinary character while new unconventional methods are being employed for the production of its form and content. Yet another very important feature defining the contemporary architecture is its social character. These are its qualitative developmental vectors that are directed both to ‘the outside’ - towards society in general, as well as ‘the inside’ - the architectural community. This talk will discuss the characteristics, critique and contra-critique of these new tendencies and will present the social and activist properties of architecture in Lithuania.

The talk will be held on Thursday, 9th of June, 2016, from 8.00 p.m. at the National Art Gallery (NDG), Konstitucijos av. 22, Vilnius.

Entrance is free of charge. The talk will be held in Lithuanian.
