Discussion with Laima Kreivytė and Deimantas Narkevičius - Application of contemporary art
NON-COLOBORATION - ON SCULPTURE
How were international artistic practises applied in the contemporary Lithuanian art scene during the Soviet times and how is it done now? What exactly happens when contemporary art leaves the "white cube" and enters the public space? Which of these two definitions: "late modernisation" or "quiet modernism" helps understanding the source of our contemporary art better?
The talk is held on Thursday, 8.00 p.m. at the National Art Gallery (NDG), Konstitucijos av. 22, Vilnius. Entrance is free of charge.
Independent curator, critic Laima Kreivytė and artist Deimantas Narkevičius.
The authors try to explain why cultural initiatives or cultural interventions can influence the development of our cities. The definitions of art in public space are reconsidered digressing from the general belief that art is "simply essential". It is rather an attempt to define the goals and possible results of the interventions realised by the means of visual culture.
