IABR - 2014 - Collective gardens of Vilnius are presented in the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam

Architecture Fund recommends: the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam - IABR 2014 is open to public form 29th of May until 24th of August. Theme of the sixth edition of the IABR is ‘Urban by Nature’, the curator of this years’ program is landscape architect Dirk Sijmons. 96 projects make up the main exhibition of the IABR. The list of participants include such renowned designers as OMA, BIG, MVRDV, West 8, organizations such as the World Wild Fund,  Shell, Port of Rotterdam, universities such as MIT, Harvard, ETH Zurich, TU Delft and many other offices and institutions from the Netherland and abroad. Next to the main exhibition in the Kunsthal and in the Natural History Museum an extensive supplementary program is offered: lectures, debates, excursions and publications. 

 

This biennale is special for Lithuanians: project about allotment gardens in Vilnius is presented in the exhibition. Study called ‘Collective Gardens Revival’ done by urbanist office ‘PUPA – Public Urbanism Personal Architecture‘ was selected by the biennale jury as an example representing the tradition and the  importance of allotment gardening in an around our cities. ‘Collective Gardens Revival’ analysis origins of allotment garden communities in Vilnius during the soviet times, describes evolution and chaotic urbanization during the twenty years of independence and draws visions for their development in the future. In the exhibition story of the project is told by an animation, a model, Europe map and photographs, historic and the new ones. 

 

‘Collective Gardens Revival’ was initiated by urbanist office ‘PUPA - Public Urbanism Personal Architecture’. Exhibition of the project in the IABR is curated by the Architecture Fund. Project is sponsored by The Lithuanian Council for Culture.
