ARCHITECTURE FUND RECOMENDS: - TWO ARCHITECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS
Both exhibitions opens at 5PM on February 12th. in The Energy and Technology Museum in Vilnius.
Exhibition „Leningrad modernism. A view from the 21st century“.
This exhibition consists of images of structures built in Leningrad during the 1960s to 80s. The pictures have been taken by photographers of different ages and working in different styles in the period of 2005-2006. The curator Vladimir Frolov’s idea was to draw attention to the architectural heritage of the so-called ‘Era of tagnation’ and so prevent this heritage being erased or totally reconstructed as a result of society or specialists failing properly to understand its historical and artistic value. The participants were asked to take photographs of the buildings in a way that would express their personal interpretation of, or attitude towards, late Soviet architecture. Due to the economic crisis and the contemporary fashion for Cold War aesthetics, these structures seem to be now in less danger than they were some years ago, when the exhibition was created. However, the new trend for modernization also presents a threat, since it tends to treat these buildings’ facades as a blank page for a new design which erases the identity of genuine Modernism. That is exactly what has happened with Hotel Moscow (shown on one of the photographs at the exhibition): its façade has been totally transformed by one of today’s St Petersburg architects, causing serious damage to its architectural image. Citizens of Helsinki are invited to study the views of Modernism presented by 20 photographers and to reflect with them on the destiny of Soviet architecture on post-Soviet terrain.

Exhibition „GAL“ on architecture of modernism in Vilnius.
Architecture[photography]fund presents the photography exhibition „GAL“ on architecture of modernism in Vilnius. During the discussion cycle of MODERN HERITAGE held by Architecture Fund in the spring of 2012, Architecture[excursion]Fund organized a photo tour round the architecture of modernism in Vilnius, along with architect Audrius Ambrasas and photographer of architecture Raimundas Urbakavičius. Part of the participants (mostly architects interested in photography and students of architecture) formed Architecture[photography]Fund. Photographers suggest a fresh look towards the modernism of our capital, also to pay
attention to the tendencies of the cultural period of time, which witnesses artistic decisions. In exhibition photographies reveal unexpected glances of the authors. Sometimes it is focused on a limit of the detail, which is important for the author and which, in his opinion, represents the building. These details do not get attention passing daily through the objects of modernism - we seem to know. The captured buildings revive once again with new vision, new image - as they are today. Exhibition „GAL” curated by Architecture[photography]Fund. Photographers: Marta Zigmantaitė , Andrius Laurinaitis, Norbert Tukaj, Gytautė Akstinaitė, Rasa Saltonaitė, Ieva Marija Malinauskaitė, Paulius Venckūnas, Aistė Galaunytė.
