ŠIAULIAI. INTERWAR PERIOD - VILIJA ULINSKYTĖ-BALZIENĖ, ŠARŪNAS SABALIAUSKAS

Together with the historian V. Ulinskytė-Balzienė and architect Š. Sabaliauskas we’ll make an overview of the interwar architecture panorama of Šiauliai town. Today, the downtown area of Šiauliai twice devastated by the wars of the 20th century and restored again, shows the imprint left by the Modernism style of the interwar years as well. Along with the most interesting residential and public buildings, the route of an excursion also covers the public spaces of the town having developed in the interwar period. The excursion will introduce to the projects of Karolis Reisonas and Vladas Bitė having served as engineers of Šiauliai town as well as to the edifices designed by such architects as Vytautas Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, Erich Mendelsohn (Germany) and other prominent architecture experts.

This architectural excursion welcomes all town dwellers and town guests interested in the architectural, cultural and historic heritage of Šiauliai. By this tour, we invite you to visit exclusive and the most interesting objects of Šiauliai representing Modernism of the interwar era. The route of the excursion may be taken on foot or by bicycle, independently or with a guide.
